Even though winter "should" be over soon, we thought it would be good to review what some good items are to have in your emergency winter kit in your truck. This is also a good time to take inventory of your items and make sure all are functioning and check if anything needs to be restocked.
Following is a generalized list of items that are good to have with you in case of an emergency. Feel free to add in the comments any other items that you have found useful to have also!
Warm socks, hat, and gloves, have more than 1 set in case they get wet.
Seeping bag or blankets.
Non-perishable foods such as dried fruit, nuts, granola.
Extra medication (check expiration dates)
Foldable or stowable shovel.
Flashlights and batteries. (Haven't we all found a flashlight in our vehicle and turned it on only to find the batteries no longer work?!)
First aid kit.
Tool kit: Screwdrivers (both flat-head and Phillips) Pliers. Box knife. Small selection of wrenches.
Spare bulbs for either the marker lights or headlights.
Chains, small section of tarp or other material to lay on for installing.
Windshield de-icer and scraper.
Charged cellphone with emergency contact numbers. If you don’t have your emergency contacts memorized, then keep a paper copy as well in case you need to borrow a phone.
